The Jedi Saga doesn't live up to its name, but it delivers in a lot of other ways. It's particularly impressive that just about everything was done by about four people. This isn't unusual for fan films, by any means, but I think this particular production is more impressive than most small crew/cast films.
The Jedi Saga involves two Jedi on a quest gone wrong during the Clone Wars. The film is largely shot on location in Florida and the production team makes good use of the venue. The cinematography is well designed and, you know, if a fan film has to occur in a forest, it's nice to have different kinds of forests to visit.
The special effects are impressive. The Jedi Saga puts their characters in many different kinds of locations and each is good, though the computer generated effects are not always seamless with the live action. The ubiquitous screen crawl at the beginning shimmers and waves as it recedes into the distance. I like how the Jedis move in quick bursts at times and the sound effects are well done. They even add aliens into the mix and while mostly supporting characters, they add spice to the story.
One picky point, and I say this because it seems to be a trend in fan films... why Episode X? Clearly this film occurs between Episodes II and III, so what's the deal? Why not just leave the "episode" number off entirely? It doesn't add anything. There. I've said it and I feel better now.
Enjoy this movie for what it is and forgive it for what it's not.
